Is there any tool to display where a certain field is used?

I've got many, many QV files. Some of them are based on the same data source (either database and/or Excel sheets). Is there any tool I could use to see whether a certain field is used in the documents or not. E.g. let's assume there is a field "Total Amount" then I want to see where (in which QV document) this field is used.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a tool as such to do the job you need.

The best solution for this would be to use Informatica or sinilar to provide you with a full data lineage from souce to  -QVX - however Informatica is very expensive so only really an option in larger organisations.

Alternatively my Sea Trials app: http://community.qlik.com/message/135809#135809 could be modified to export it's list of 'Used Fields' which could then be combined with outputs for other .qvw's to produce a full picture.

Either way would be a major undertaken.

All the best,

Check out the Meta-Model group at

You can use the MetaScanner to exract the fields from the doc and the lineage sample posted in the group.
