Length of ObjectID

Normally each Object has its own ID (e.g. CH_123, TX-456). I would give a name instead of ID

(CH_NAMEofObject instead of CH_123).

My question: is there a restriction concerning the length of the name?

I'm sure that there is a restriction.

But 1k symbols seems to work fine.

There does not seem to be a restriction. Have tried more than 255 characters and it takes.
