Hi,
Not sure if I am going to explain this very well but I was wondering if anyone could help. I have a QlikView application that holds around 60M records, I am using QlikView server to distribute this application in the company, users are accessing the application via IE7. My problem is the amount of memory I seem to be using, If I open a application through IE I can see the RAM increasing on the server by using Task Manager, when I disconnect I do not see it going down. I have run Qv Optimizer.w and it seems to say I need around 10G or Ram for 40 users, at the end of the day I seem to be using around 22G for 2 users. Is there an option that I need to select to free up this RAM or does QlikView just hold onto it for ever ?
Are you using a lot of columns?
Can you use a WHERE in the load script¿?
Hi Pearce,
Take a look at the QlikView Management Console; QlikView Server keeps QVW's (and calculation results) in memory for a while for the case that another user wants to use the same data.
This behaviour is configurable: time to keep a QVW in memory after last user activity, including a 'forever' option, and even an option to pre-load a QVW at a set time, so it's already cached at the start of the working day.
Don't know the exact location of the options, it is somewhere in the QV Server configuration pages for QVS 9.0. You'd have to dig around the 8.x Management Console yourself to find the correct option(s).

I am not familiar yet with the 9th version, but in 8.5 document remains in memory untill QVS need it for other document in this case it will free the memory used by the document.
But there is something to take care about which is the virtual memory. In some cases, a document will ask more memory, therefore Windows will increase the virtual memory.
So QVS will not detect the lack of memory and will not free RAM for new documents. This can be what happens to you. You can see it in the QVS Performance qvw file that should be available on QV web site.
In 8.5 control panel you can also ask QVS to keep only one document copy in memory. This can also help.
Rgds,
