QVD versus a data warehouse

Hi - we have a DW that is populated with input from some (not all systems).  From the data warehouse QVD files are created.  A Qlikview partner has recommended that we remove the DW completely and create rather QVD files.  I am against this (mainly gut instinct) as this would tie us into Qlikview, and limits future BI opportunities.

I would appreciate some expert opinion on this.

Thanks

Hi Tim,

If you have invested time, money and effort into a DW consolidating data from disparate sources it sounds like a bad idea to just throw it out. I would just leverage the DW for data provisioning for QlikView, and use extra QVD files on top for any QlikView specific transformations or business logic that needs to be implemented. Sure I would still do incremental loads from DW to QVD but if the data in the DW is well formatted then this will be an easy approach and just ensure that not a full reload is executed against the DW every time that applications are refreshed.
