QlikView Offline using Full Client

We have a deployment in which we have some users who would wish to periodically connect to QlikView server in order to download the latest version of the QlikView document but then continue their analysis offline using the full client software. All documentation says that this facility to work offline is available with QlikView Server but i cannot see a way of downloading the .qvw from the server to a local folder or opening the QlikView document on the Server and then performing a Save As to a local folder.

Clearly i am missing something, perhaps somebody has done this and can help me figure this out.

The QlikView publisher (including the QlikView accesspoint) has a feature where you can download a local copy of a document instead of opening it on the server.

I know that I can use QlikView Publisher to push documents to people's desktops. But that seems like the opposite approach to what is needed here, as it requires the users to be connected to the network when Publisher does its job. I'm visualizing, say, some traveling sales people that want to connect up to the network every few days and download the latest data. They won't be able to be on the network on a scheduled basis, so the "push" approach of Publisher doesn't seem like it would work.

Are you saying there's also a way for a user to "pull" documents out of Publisher or Access Point down to their local machine for offline use? How is that done?

I'm of course making up a hypothetical which might not match John's real requirements. But it also might, and I'd be curious what the answer is. We do have traveling sales people like this at our company, and while none of them are using QlikView applications yet, it wouldn't surprise me if we wanted to give them some at some point, and they'd probably need this approach to keep their data current.

Yes, "Download" is supported as an Access Type by Access Point (There was also some type of download in QVS, but I never understood it). If Download is enabled for a document, the user can pull the doc to their local disk.

Opening the local doc requires either a registered license or a borrowed CAL.

Thanks for the responses, actually i was aware that Publisher and AccessPoint would enable the functionality i require, which is for a remote off-site user to be able to periodically connect to download the latest version of the application in order that they could then use offline. However the client i have does not have Publisher and is reluctant to spend the money to purchase it. The QlikView price list appears to suggest that this could be done without Publisher but simply using QlikView Server (as Rob suggests above), i know i would need a license or a borrowed cal but this is no problem, more a matter of convenience and performance for the user consuming the QlikView application.

I also believe that if the customer migrated to QV9 then they would get the standard Publisher AccessPoint as part of this migration which would enable this functionality.

I will send a request to support to get their definitive view and post their reply on here fyi.

How about emailing the qvw as an attachment?

After reloading the document with the latest data, you could then re-invoke the document with a variable value set that is detected in an OnOpen macro to initiate the process.

No need for Publisher and a new qvw is pushed out as the data is updated.
