SW Requirements Windows 7 64 bit Home editon???

Hi,

I am about to buy a new laptop, a 64 bits machine, I read in the documentation of QT that it needs Windows 7 x64 edition, when I am looking at the specs in the advertisements I only see Windows7 Home edition, will this work or is this a complete different OS?

Hope someone can help me with this.

Kind regards,

Linda Monincx

Hi Linda

I am not aware of that the desktop version needs 64 bit though it is probably advisable to go for 64bit. Could you point me to the QT documentation that you have referenced? I personally have used QlikView Desktop on 32bit and 64bit so far, also 32 bit on Windows7.

Windows 7 Home is available in 32 bit as well as 64 bit. If you want to use memory extensive programs like QlikView, you should probably go for the 64 bit version (I remember some problems with hardware drivers e.g. for scanners with this version in the past, but if you don't need to use legacy periphery, this should not be a problem).

Just make sure that the 64 bit version is either pre-installed or you do have access to the installation medium.

Regards,

Stefan

Hi, Linda.

The home edition is one of the many editions of Windows 7.

The differences are the features that are available:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions

Unless you are working with something unconventional, I'd say it should work just fine.

In 32bits, you can only use 2GB of RAM. In 64 bits, you can use more, but specifically on home edition, you can use 8GB

Stefan,

You can get the system requirements and other details in the QV10_TechSheet

Hope this helps,

Erich
