X-axis and Y-axis custom labels

Hi. I'm preparing a bar chart with values for every month in last 50 years. I have questions about the formatting:

1. The values on Y axis are from 10k to 10M (log scale) and axis is showing labels for: 1k, 3k, 10k, 30k, 100k, 300k, 1M, 3M, 10M. How to setup the labels for showing only 1k, 10k, 100k, 1M and 10M?

2. The values on X axis are for every month (it looks horrible) but I want to have for example: January-1950, January-1955, January-1960 etc. How can I change labels to show these values instead of every month value?

I appreciate any help or inspiration because I'm running out of ideas how to solve these issues .
