hierarchy- more levels then max depth

Hello everybody!

Could anyone tell me,please, why does Hierarchy() build 4 levels more then max depth is (34 while depth is 28)?

I'm building a BOM and since not-null level number became 28 after 25, hierarchy works much more slowly (~40 minutes!!! instead of 1), the tree is much bigger.

At the same time the expanded tree has 34 levels, each in 28-34 contains null...Why does it happen?

What can slow down hierarchy's work in such way?

Did you manage to solve the described? I have a similar problem to build a hierarchy with a lot of records.
