Based on your question referring to both script and sheet objects, I think the best thing for you is to read up on what exactly Set Analysis means. From this you will be able to understand the concept and then see how this would apply to your requirements.

There are some good references already made in the thread, but I would also suggest that you take a look at demo apps and see how set expressions are used for similar scenarios as yours.
