plot 2 expressions with different date ranges, in different tables on same graph

i have a requirement to plot different expressions on one graph and both measures use 'date'.

however the dates are not the in the same table, nor are the dates in the tables the same values.

i have looked at the various calendar threads but am not sure if my problem is that complex.

would i be right in thinking i need a new table where each  unique date from both tables is present with the two measures also brought in but with gaps where there is no join?

im too new to databases and BI tools to know how to do this, or if this is correct?

im sure there is a better way but i imagined this..

the new table might look like this..

master date, measure1, measure2

2010-01-01,  7             ,

2010-01-06,  9             ,

2010-01-17,                 ,100

2010-01-30, 8

No, as long as the date fields in both tables have the same name then Qlikview will see it as one field. You can use that one field as dimension in a chart and add the two measures as expressions.
