Extension: prohibit maximize object to exceed xyz pixels

Hi

I have an extension that put the objects to a frame and center within a given width, ex 1400px. If a user wants to maximize an object I would like this object to only fill 1400px with a centered positioning in the window.

How can I write in javascript to make this apply to the maximize function for each object?

Or can i do it in css?
