QlikView Governance Dashboard Beta - Pre-Installation Steps

Thank you all so far for participating in the download and testing of the QlikView Governance Dashboard 1.0 Beta. To date we have collected a few issues which are currently being investigated and addressed for future versions of the QVGD. In the mean-time I suggested you keep these steps in mind.

The following steps are recommended instructions when installing the QlikView Governance Dashboard Beta 1.0.

  • If installing on Windows XP or Windows 2003 server
    • Create the following Directory: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0Beta
    • Run the installation wizard and change the default install location to: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0Beta

  • Ensure that QlikView Desktop is not running - check task manager for QV.exe and ensure the process is not running

  • Do not use a VM - install on a physical machine

  • Do not use directory names that contain spaces for the 'Install Directory’ and ‘Profile Directory’ (see first bullet)

  • Uninstall any previous version of the QlikView Governance Dashboard by using the Uninstall utility found in the Add / Remove Programs list

unin.PNG

  • If you have installed a Pre-Beta version please remove the Governance folder from: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech

  • Install the QlikView Governance Dashboard

    Software and instructions found here:

http://market.qlik.com/qlikview-governance-dashboard.html

  • Restart the system

  • Load the QlikView Governance Dashboard, configure and scan according to the instructions

Hello Bill - can you check:

C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0Beta\profiles\default\QVX_LastRun

and look for:

FullScan.messages.log and/or qvs.log  files.

See if it/they was/were generated and if so attach it to this discussion?

Also to verify - you installed QVGD in the default locations such as:

C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0Beta

You did not change the installation paths correct?

And scanning  paths - look like this: (except your documents directory may be different than mine)

Hi Bill - I have engineering looking at this - can you please try a few more things?

For some reason the etool processes of the Expressor Engine are all failing to load their respective, operator-specific DLLs (e.g. in-datascript.dll).

This may have something to do with the configuration of your system but it is hard to tell for certain.  It is possible that the installation encountered errors.

We have logged a case in our system.

In the mean-time:

  • provide the 'Governance Dashboard.qvw.log' file from C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0Beta\profiles\default
(to verify that the CUSTOM CONNECT statement is being properly formulated (i.e. that this is not an issue in the load script's logic that formulates the CUSTOM CONNECT property list))
  • provide the 'expressorQlikViewConnector.log' file in the user's C:\Users\<user_account_name>\AppData\Roaming\expressor directory
  • confirm that the DLLs (e.g. in-datascript.dll, copy.dll, filter.dll) are actually present in his C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Governance_1.0Beta\engine\lib directory.
  • let us know whether you also has Expressor Studio installed
  • check your Windows EventViewer logs for DLL load violations that might have been generated by the operator DLLs
  • attempt to uninstall all Expressor software and the Governance Dashboard and reinstall the Governance Dashboard, reboot and re-try the scan AFTER doing the steps above

Thanks

Bill -

Thank you very much for this.

This explains why your operator DLLs are not loading.

All of the failed operators were datascript operators.  Datascript has a relatively recently added dependency on SSL (libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll).

It looks like the build of the OpenSSL DLL that is distributed with the engine (and hence the Governance Dashboard) is based on MSVCR90.DLL.

My guess is that the your system lacks that MSVC90.DLL and I’m not certain but I think the MS C runtime DLL we package with the Governance Dashboard is a later version but I need  to confirm this with engineering.

This has been escalated and I hope to have an additional update shortly.

Mike T

OK Bill - I have something for you to try.

I'd like you to install the following DLL pack from Microsoft:

The Microsoft downloads for the 32-bit installer linked below. (QlikView Expressor currently is a 32-bit application)

http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/d/9/dd9a82d0-52ef-40db-8dab-795376989c03/vcredist_x86.exe

Please let me know how it goes.

Hi,

I am only trying to use the QVGD but get exactly the same problem as described in this thread so I will tag along.

I have tried installing the DLL-pack from Microsoft. I have uninstalled and reinstalled QVGD. I have only installed it to default folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QlikTech\Governance_1.0Beta).

QVGD is installed on the QV Publisher server.

Best Regards,

Xerxes
