set analysis and variable

once i think i have this under the belt, i just don't.

i want to use set analysis to based on variable.

the variable is today's date called vdate.

i want sum of sales where salesdate = vdate.

help please?

sum({<salesdate ={"$(vdate)"}>}sales)

try sum({<salesdate={$(#vdate)}>} sales) or sum({<salesdate={$(#=date(today()))}>} sales)
