I am setting up an SMTP Email Provider in a Qlik Cloud Academic account. The SMTP provider is Outlook.com and it uses TLS encryption. However, Qlik Administration Settings gives an error when I Save if Security is set to StartTLS or SSL/TLS:
Email provider is not working as expected:
* Unable to verify provider configuration.
If I change Security to None then Save works. But clicking Test E-mail returns an error after a few seconds:
There was a problem sending your email. Please review your settings.
I have verified the SMTP settings with Outlook.com as well as the email username and password. Is there any known issue using Outlook.com?
Hi,
SInce august 2025 Office has been changing their security for SMTP settings. Read this article, maybe this can help you?

@dgreway where you able to solve your problem?
Unfortunately no. Since Outlook.com doesn't use basic auth, deprecating it doesn't seem to be an issue. The problem in my view is that Qlik prevents me from saving the configuration with TLS selected, which is what Outlook.com uses. Saving it without TLS naturally causes an authentication failure during the test. So, the question is why Qlik throws an error when TLS is selected.
