This article outlines how to connect a Qlik NPrinting server to multiple Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows servers and how to manage possible errors encountered during setup.

Requirements

  • All Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows servers must be in the same domain as the Qlik NPrinting Server
  • Connecting to multiple Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows servers is only available from the Qlik NPrinting June 2019 release and onwards. Qlik NPrinting April 20219 and earlier do not support this feature
  • The Qlik NPrinting Engine service domain user account must be ROOTADMIN on each Qlik Sense server that Qlik NPrinting is connecting to
  • Server Validation must be disabled to allow for this configuration

Steps

  1. On the additional Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows server(s), go to the Qlik Sense Management Console > Start > Certificates

  2. Export the Qlik Sense server certificates from each additional Qlik Sense server(s):

    1. Use the NPrinting server computer name or the Friendly URL Alias of the Qlik NPrinting Server as the Machine Name that is used to log into the Qlik NPrinting Web Console.

    2. Export a certificate for both if both addresses below are used to access the Qlik NPrinting web console:

      • Computer name:  nprintingserverPROD1
      • Friendly URL/Alias address:  Internal.nprintingserver.domain.com

    3. Select include secret key and do NOT include a password when exporting the certificates. See Exporting certificates through the QMC | help.qlik.com for details.

  3. Navigate to the exported certificates location on the Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows server and rename the exported file client.pfx with a suitable name. Example: if your Qlik Sense server name is QS1, we recommend prepending the file client certificate file name as QS1client.pfx. This will make identifying the certificates easier.

  4. Copy this file to the Qlik NPrinting server path: C:\Program Files\NPrintingServer\Settings\SenseCertificates

  5. Restart all Qlik NPrinting services

Troubleshooting

Test access to the additional Qlik Sense server

  1. Open the Qlik NPrinting Web Console
  2. Create a new Qlik NPrinting App. ie: "NP_App_QSserver-2"
  3. Create a new Qlik NPrinting connection and use the Virtual Proxy Address for the new target Qlik Sense server
  4. Verify your connection
  5. Save your connection to load the metadata for the first time.
  6. Create a test report and preview
  7. If having issues connecting to multiple Qlik Sense servers, see Qlik NPrinting will not read Qlik Sense certificates

Notes regarding this feature

  • Connecting additional Qlik Sense servers will have an impact on the Qlik NPrinting server system resources. Ensure to carefully monitor Qlik NPrinting Server and Engine RAM and CPU usage, and increase each as needed to ensure normal Qlik NPrinting system operation.
  • You may only publish Qlik NPrinting reports to a single Qlik Sense Hub. Such as the Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows hub defined in the Qlik NPrinting Web Console under 'Destinations\Hub' while logged on as a Qlik NPrinting administrator.
  • Publishing to multiple Qlik Sense Hubs is not supported

Notes on the Qlik NPrinting server target folder for exported Qlik Sense certificates:

  • The folder is: C:\Program Files\NPrintingServer\Settings\SenseCertificates
  • It is retained when Qlik NPrinting is upgraded
  • But it is deleted when Qlik NPrinting is uninstalled, meaning exported certificates will need to be re-added after a complete reinstall
  • Ensure that no older Qlik Sense server certificates are kept in the Sense certificates folder, nor in any sub-folders of this folder

Hello Frank_S.

We are trying to connect to two Qliks Sense with one Nprinting Engine server.

However, We do not connector Qlik Sense because the certificate setting is not working peorperly.

1.

We are renamed the two certificates differently and copied them to the folder(=C:\Program Files\NPrintingServer\Settings\SenseCertificates) according to your guide.

The verify connection process was failed.

The error message is
" Installed certificates are valid to connect to Qlik Sense."

2.
Does this require additional certification files import operations?

After we are imported operation on two certificates, the verify connection process was failed too.

The error message is
" Installed certificates are valid to connect to Qlik Sense."

3.
This is Help.
"You can only connect to one Qlik Sense server if you use the certificates store. You need to install certificates to the file system if you want to connect to multiple servers."

What does the file system mean in this sentence?

4.
What should we do about the certificate?

Best Regard.
