Datastage vs Talend

Hi,

Can someone tell me comparison between Datastage and Talend ETL.

I need valid points to convince my client to move the Datastage jobs to Talend  in terms of speed , volume, features of Talend  compare with Datastage.

Thanks,

Joearun

Hi,

Below are my thoughts on your queries.

1. Volume and speed - How long Talend ETL will take to load 1M records compared with Datastage ?

There is no straight forward benchmark figure as it depends on a multitude of factors like same CPU configuration, hardware settings of the server, memory allocation for program, network bandwidth of the performance bench marking system. So you will have to check the setup in same closed environment and verify the results. But you can see from various posts in Talend community itself that this process can be finished in a matter of some minutes using Bulk components of Talend. I am not an expert of Datastage and I am leaving it to Datastage experts to comment their version 🙂

Also you have the high performance Bulk components available in Talend for a variety of popular Databases.

2. Specific Feature which is available in Talend and not in datastage ?

Could you please elaborate your specific use case because there are differences in approach in many use cases. A simple and popular example is that Talend generates its executable through Java code generation engine. So the Talend code will work anywhere Java is running provided you are giving right setup and infrastructure 🙂

3. License costs

The most easy way is to fill the form at the end of the page of below link and Talend sales team will contact you.

https://www.talend.com/products/

I am from technical side and do not have first hand information in this area but lot of Datastage to Talend migration projects confirms one factor. You can guess it 🙂

4. Error mechanisms

Talend is having fantastic error handling mechanisms. For Talend Cloud, you can get all the details of the error through Talend Management Console Dashboards. You can integrate ELK to Talend if you are interested to have Logservers in that way. You can have Talend Acivity Monitoring Console (which can be linked to Databases) if your logging interest in that way. There are multiple other methods based on your use case and logging needs but you can see that Talend is quite flexible in this area and does not force a customer to stick to any rigid logging mechanism in a silo fashion.
