Talend offers over 900 components right out of the box, but sometimes there are some very specific components that are not included. Although this is a somewhat rare situation, it does happen from time to time. Thankfully, Talend allows custom components to be used within the studio and installing them is as one-two-three!
The first step in installing custom components is to create a folder in your local filesystem where you want all your custom components to live. You can name it whatever you want, but it is generally a good idea to name it something practical like, “talend_custom_components.”
Once you create your folder download the component within the folder, which usually comes as a zipped file, and unzip it. Now, open Talend Studio and select or create a new project that you want to work on. Open the preferences menu by going to window and then preferences.
In the preferences menu, select Components found under Talend. In the “User component folder” field, navigate to the folder that you created earlier to hold all of your custom components. Then click “OK”.
That’s it! Your custom components should be easily accessed through the Palette and you’re ready to use your components within your jobs.
