Previous Designer style and view of Talend Studio

Hi there,

Regarding this point about the colors and style of the Designer... We have recently upgraded to Talend Studio 2024-07 version. As it says in other Community entrances, this layout have gotten worse compared to the traditional versions. Is there a way to configure the theme to take back the previous design? Or even add/improve this option in new versions of Talend.

Cause honestly this one is awful...with less visual clarity and quality.

Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry for any inconvenience.

We certainly did understand your frustration about the new theme and already have received an update from R&D team, they have added some improvements in the studio patch R2024-07 and latest R2024-08

Please find the release notes below for the studio patch R2024-07 and latest R2024-08

https://help.talend.com/en-US/patch-notes/8.0/r2024-07

https://help.talend.com/en-US/patch-notes/8.0/r2024-08

If want to be on the old patch R2024-XX( old theme), please follow the below process and check.

Go to Windows-->Preference-->Talend-->Updating setting-->Update URL,

Update the url to R2024-XX( old theme) at the last and click on apply.

Note: Perhaps there needs to be some manual work involved in re-aligning the components in the job.

 Hope it helps.

Best regards

Sabrina

Not even that the visibility is worse, but the whole layout is broken because very component has moved slightly out of the boxes. I need to pack every single component and move it to a valid location to restore the layout.

Personally I think this was a bad decision, and some components now look almost the same (tRunJob, tJava, tPreJob, tPostJob, tJobLog, tJobReject, tJobFailue), all of them are the same three dots with a slightly different splash of color.

If they would at least implement own icons for each item, but the designers seem to be lazy in this case and reuse the same one.

You can set default color preferences for subjobs, pipes etc but this does not apply in all cases (almost nothing), and it's not set globally so every user needs to set the same colors to have a unified color scheme for jobs.

Short version: I have the feeling I'm getting eye cancer with the new design, hope they bring more updates with better options for colors and layouts.

I totally agree!! I've tried this option as well about modifying manually the colors etc from Preferences. But, as you said, almost nothing is applied. Another important point, now all the link connections turned out with same green color...You are not able to know easily having a look if they are main rows, lookup rows, conditional links, subjobs links...

I join you short version hahaha also getting eye cancer with the new design!! Hope they apply some improvements at all...

Same here,

Everything is overlasped and we can't read the component's and row's names.

It will take time to realigned every single job cause it's now look like a bowl of spaghettis!

And all the component look the same! I have difficulty to understand my own code...

It will take time to adapt and be productive with this UI. I prefer the old version and we should be able to choose between the 2.

OMG, the new icons in Talend are truly disappointing. Navigating my code has become a challenge because the icons are so similar that I have to click on each one individually to determine its function.

Who designed these icons? Was it a manager who has never created a data flow in Talend? Changing all the icons simply to match the company's green, black, and white color scheme shows a lack of understanding of development processes and practical use in Talend. While the uniform colors may appeal to management, it negatively impacts usability for developers.

I am extremely disappointed. After migrating all my projects from the 2023 version to the 2025 version, there is no option to revert. I sincerely hope that Qlink can provide a solution to restore the old icons, especially since the new version uses SVG files instead of PNG. This means an entirely new set of icons must be created, ideally with the previous color scheme.

Talend is supposed to be a tool for creating data flows efficiently, but that is no longer the case. The new icons make it nearly impossible to understand a flow at a glance. This is a prime example of how management decisions, made without user input, can complicate the user experience.

Until this issue is resolved, I will no longer recommend Talend as an ELT/ETL tool.

I just created some new icons to work with the current version,  just replace the generic one ...
in ...plugins\org.talend.designer.components.localprovider_<Version>\components
it's not perfect but is a  bit more readable, feel free to use it
