Talend TMAP not behaving with variable expressions

I've just installed Talend OpenSource in a new instance.

I'm using a licensed version at work and wanted to explore some other uses personally.

TMAP in my paid version is behaving differently than in my free version.

First thing I noticed was my variables are not listed by name, but instead by expression.

Free Version

And a similar example on my paid version

Further, references to any variable in the TMAP expression build do not work on the free version

YET when I put this code in place and run the job, everything works EXACTLY AS EXPECTED.

Any help in understanding what could cause this odd TMAP bahvior would be greatly appreciated.

@Don McCarty , i tested free version and the paid version. both of them displays the expression in the 'Var' column, see below

free version: Talend Open studio for Data Integration 8.0.1

paid version: Talend Cloud Data Fabric 8.0.1

is this the point where you mention they behave differently?

@Shicong Hong - thank you very much.

I believe your pictures highlight one of the problems we are having. While your pictures are consistent across platforms, they are showing the expressions. Where the column header clearly states "Var". In this case, the expectation is to display the variable names.

Also - note the behavior when you click a var. The expression is pasted into place. This is also incorrect. The variable name should be pasted in.

Could you also check paid version 7.31? That is the version I'm using at work.

And based on your experience - I'm wondering if this is a bug introduced into v8.01.

@Don McCarty, I have tested with paid version 7.3.1, it is the same result, the expression is listed in the Var column. Can you open a jira on Talend Bugtracker to R&D team to check if it is a bug?

Regards

Shong

Will do. Please advise which project you would like me to submit the issue. TOS is not listed. [image: image.png][image: image.png]

@Don McCarty, create a jira issue under 'Talend DI components' project. Thanks!

@Shicong Hong - I'm unable to create the bug report. I can now only get into the Test project.

Also - your note of 4/23/22 notes " i tested free version and the paid version. both of them displays the expression in the 'Var' column"

What you confirmed is the exact problem we are reporting.

You see the expression in the Var column.

The expected behavior is to see the variable name in Var column.

I'm afraid I don't have the ability to take this any further.

At this point, I must request you submit the ticket. If that is not possible, I will simply look for other tools both for my personal use and in our professional services current subscribed service. We are coming up on a decision point later this year.

hi @Don McCarty , don't focus on test function it was always buggy , you can look for other tools , but i can say to you i've tested other ETL like ssis , by far Talend is most user friendly and soft with the use of Java, Tmap is still the most complete component you will see in ETL software.
