Hi all,
I'm new to Talend an so I need a litte bit help in doing a simple transfer of data from 1 table in MS SQl Server to 1 Table in Oracle.
Actually I use tMSSqlInput (1), [optional tMap (2)] and tOracleOutput (2).
The connections in (1) and (3) work fine!
The data have not the same field-structure, that means the field-names are completly different and the field-data-types too.
For example 1 field:
In MS-SQL
Fieldname: ProductionDate
FieldType: DateTime
write to
Oracle
Fieldname: PRODDAT
FieldType: VARCHAR
My questions are:
1) Is it neccesary to use the tMap to do this, or is it possible, to use a direct connection between (1) and (3)?
2) Where can I do the type-conversion?
3) Regardless, which way (with or without tMap) I choose, I never see the destination fields! In SSIS, on the left I can see the source fields and on the right the destination fields, an I can map them by drag-and-drop. In all talend-dialogues, I see only the source fields and I wonder, why these are free-text-boxes?? I expect drop-down boxes!?! And on the right (destination) site, there is exactly the same?? Same field-names like on the left... There I expected the fields of the destination-table.
Please, can anyone give me some tips?!
Thanks in advance,
MisterFritz
Hi,
Please refer the details below for each of your queries.
1) Is it necessary to use the tMap to do this, or is it possible, to use a direct connection between (1) and (3)?
Nikhil-You will have to use the tMap and it will help in assigning the values to right target columns.
2) Where can I do the type-conversion?
Nikhil- Please use tConvertType component. You can also use java type conversion functions inside Talend
Nikhil -We will have to understand that each Tool will have its own features, architecture and method of working. If everything is exactly same, then we will not be able classify them as two different tools.
Coming to your query about tMap, you can drag and drop new columns in Talend tMap easily once you create an output flow. I would recommend to undergo Talend Basic DI Training so that you will get more hands on experience on how to configure the columns. Please also try to do the sample scenarios in the tMap help document.

The free text boxes help to easily integrate any functions with input data while doing data transformation. If you give Control+Space, you will get all the available list of values. Once you are familiar with different scenarios through training and practicing the sample scenarios, it will be easy for you.
