I'm not able to login and Qlik support don't want to help as I'm a free user of Qlik Sense Desktop. Does anyone have a clue what I can do to resolve this?

I'm able to login to the website, qlik.com.
I would try to change password and see if that solves it. Make sure you have an internet connection.

You could try out one more thing.
You want to know if it is a problem with your account or with your Qlik Sense installation.
I would start by seeing if you can log on the Qlik Sense cloud environment. It works with your desktop account and is free so you can't lose anything on trying it.

If you can't enter here then we know that you are facing an account problem.
If you can enter the site but not the desktop version you properly have something wrong with the software.
You should copy all the Qvw files on your desktop and either (if you can install an upgrade like June 2019) or if you use the latest version reinstall/repair the installation.
Also! look at the log files maybe they can help you! <user>\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Log
