Bar chart - Colour by measure with segment colour in master element for multiple measures
Hi everyone,
I have a bar chart with one dimension and multiple measures, where each measure is displayed next to each other for each dimension value (grouped chart). Each measure is a master element and has an assigned segment colour.
When I create the graph and want to keep the colours of the master elements, I tried to set up the colour option to "Auto" or to "Multicoloured" with the option of "Use Library Colours - Measure". Unfortunately, the segment colours of the master elements are not kept.
Any recommendation on how to move forward?
Many thanks in advance

Hello,
Master item Measure's color is kept only when in Bar chart the option "Appearance > Colors and legend > Colors" is set to "Auto". If you remove the "Auto" option then you can chose among:
- Single color (Which will have only one color for all the bars)
- Multicolored (Which will assign colors from chosen color scheme)
- By measure (Which will assign colors based on minimum and maximum color)
- By expression (Which will assign colors based on an expression that you will write)
At the same time for the color of Master item Measure you can only chose one specific color instead of specifying 2 different colors based on expression. So my current hypothesis is that your use case scenario might not be fully supported. You can specify the color to be Red() for negative values and Green() for positive values, but to do so you will have to go to un-check the option "Appearance > Colors and legend > Colors" and chose "By measure". However, please keep in mind that if you have multiple measures it will apply this color for all the bars. With this option you can't keep the Master item Measure's color.
If you would like to have more customizability on Master item Measure color or if you would like to have more advance color option for multiple measures on Bar chart, I would recommend you to submit a feature request [1] and elaborate in detail as to why this use case scenario will be beneficial for you and for other user.
I hope that this information was helpful. In case I have misunderstood the use case scenario, please elaborate in details by providing additional information. However, if it has helped you resolve the issue, please mark it as accepted solution to give further visibility to other community members.

Hello,
If my understanding is correct you are trying to add Master items Measures to the Bar Chart and keep the specified colors for each individual Master item. In my case I have the following observation:
1. I have imported this dataset:
2. I have created a simple Bar chart with 3 measures and as we can see the colors are automatically assigned:
3. I have created for each measure an individual Master item Measure and specified custom colors:
4. Creating an Bar chart with the Master items Measures I can see that the colors are kept as specified:

Hi Andrei,
Thanks for your reply.
Your suggestion is valid and also works fine with my dataset. However, I do not want to assign a colour to each master element but a segment color. In the segment color of each master item I have basically two colours assigned: if below 0 (aka negative), red, if above 0 (positive), green. These segment colours are not kept in a bar chart unfortunately...

Hi Andrei,
Thanks a lot for your detailed reply. I'll submit a feature request then 🙂
