Connecting data to map (an "as" function??)

Hi,

I am trying to connect a column to a map. This would be easy IF the column names had the same data. They do not.

On the map I need to click "MI". Then I want my table to change to reflect the MI data but to spell out the entire word ("Michigan"). How can I connect them while also keeping the map words one way and the table words the other?
