Export to Image or PDF using Mashups

Hello,

Qlik Sense version: June 2017

I would like to be able to export charts to PDF / Image files.
We currently use a mashup to display our visualizations.
So far I have not found a solution for this. 

Visualization extension on-the-fly  
I have tried creating a visualization extension on-the-fly as described here:

But this does not seem to work, maybe I'm missing something? Do I need to create a chart on the fly as well or can I somehow assign an existing chart to the new extension (the extension will have the export property set to true)? 

Using phantomjs
I've seen this thread which I don't understand exactly how to implement and looks  a little long winded:

I haven't succeeded in getting this to work yet and there doesn't seem to be any documentation on using it.

I would really appreciate some help on finding a solution for this either providing more info on one the solutions above or a different approach.
