Field formatting

I have a field of serial numbers that has a mixture of numbers and letters and some fields are really long so I get the below displayed:

I initially just used num(field) and put tonnes of # and that worked, but then I realised that scrapped all of the letters. Is there a way to do both?

If there are numbers and letters, shouldn't the format be automatically seen as text? And I don't think text will be cut off or shortened.

Yes it is automatically as text but i wanted to also avoid the display that the data is showing in the image above. Even when I force text nothing displays at all

So the [Serial Number] field in your image is formatted as text? If it is, it shouldn't be displayed as 1,...e*17

It is 100% loaded in as text. I even forced it in the script to make sure..

text.PNGtext 2.PNG

But still no luck

Are you sure it isn't already in the shortened form when you are loading it from your data source?
