I used it to map the flow of transfers between fund pots.
So for practical usage within Sense or View I think of it as a way of exploding a pie chart to show the share of a value across multiple dimensions rather than using a drill down or cyclical filter.
It takes up more real estate on your dashboard but gives overall visibility that prompts further investigation you might miss using the filters.
