    Ajax vs Java Server Performance

We are running a document that has 7million lines of data. We break down this data into detail strait tables over 8 tabs within the document. users are able to access this data by logging in via ajax.

However, we've noticed that when ajax first loads the data it will shoot the server usage from 1cpu to 100% and load 7-9 gigs of ram in the process.

What type of performance issues can you find from ajax? And is java a better alternative?

      Thanks,
