This may be specific to your MS SQL Server network configuration - sometimes you need to configure the TCP/IP settings so they are enabled on the MS SQL Server. In regards to connecting Qlik Sense to MS SQL Server - we provide ODBC drivers and also have OLE/DB drivers - so you do not to manually configure ODBC DSN.
