Adding Users for QlikView Access

Hi All,

I have a requirement to give access the Users to the QlikView Dashboards. The users have to log in to Access Point and provide their credentials to log in ( though a common password could be provided in the QMC).

Suppose I have a set of users like this provided by customers:

CountRegionUser IDUser NameAdmin
URL
1A123ABCAdmin
2A456DEFAdmin
3B789XYZAdmin
4C321CBA
5B654FED

Now these 5 users need to access different apps. Could you please let me know how to achieve this using the QMC? If this could be done in section access, please let me the detailed steps too. It would be really appreciated.

Regards!

Hi,

     First Thing,

If All 5 users are going to access the different 5 application (Each user one Application) then you dont need the section access. But yes if all users will access the same application, but depending on their region they should see their data only, then yes you will need section access.

Now for Section Access implementation have a look at the below link.

          http://community.qlik.com/docs/DOC-3871

          http://community.qlik.com/docs/DOC-2049

For Users to see their own different application, have a look at the below link.

Hi Kaushik,

Thanks for the quick help.

Yes my requirement is that different users will access all App, but they can select different Regions from the List Box in the app and compare their region data with others.

That means all Users will access all the Apps. Only thing is that during the Log In to access Point they need the credentials to Log In.

Can it be done from QMC or really it requires a Section Access?

Hi,

In any case your users will be asked to enter the login credential when trying to access the Access Point.

You dont require any other different setting.

Let us know what all things you have tried.

OK. Let me explain.

Till now all users were allowed to access all the apps(as of now 5 apps). Now I need to give access to 20 specific users to access all apps.

As per my above data provided, the Acess will be categorized in to 3 values: ADMIN, USERS, DEVELOPERS. Let 1st 3 will be ADMIN, Next is USERS and next is DEVELOPER.

What I did:

  • in QVWS: Changed Authorization type to Custom Users
  • in QVS: Changed Security Type to DMS Authorization

Then from the Custom Users (sorry am not finding the exact section now from QMC), was adding the IDs with a common password for all. So that if that ID logs in, he can open any apps from 5.

I am new to Server part, please cooperate.

Hi,

Seems you are having EE server where you have the power of DMS mode.

One thing to ask, why are you using the custom users, cant you use the windows authentication?

If you can use the windows authentication then do following things.

     1. Do the Active Directory Settings. If no Active Directory is available then create those users on Windows Server and Set QlikView to connect to local directory (QEMC -> System ->Setup ->Directory Service Connector ->Local Directory).

     2. Now Assign proper license to the users.

     3. Now if you click on the Application under(QEMC ->Document ) right hand side you will find the tab named Authorization, here add the users which can see the application on browser.

     Thats it.

Hi Kaushik,

It's been while a late, but I have some answers and queries.

OK, I agree to your statement that DMS shhould not be used with Custom Users, rather to use NTFS. But my concern now is, suppose I have a list of 10 users and only those 10 users can log in using Windows ID and open the Access Point (Authentication part) and see the dashboards.Other users whoever logs in to Access Point using Windows ID, it should fail.

So without adding the custom users, how to achive this? How to maintain the list of 10 users (infact I have 200 users) in QMC?

Please advice.

Hi Colleagues

i have one question and respectively one small problem: i create an Access-table where i defined an user and an admin, so i can as admin see all sheets within qlikview and as user i can´t see all sheets. My Question is: how can i make it possible? How does look the scripting for this?

I know there is an option within QlikView: Inline Access can i create an admin and an user, but i should type always password.

How can i from Access-Table use all sheets in qlikview as admin and as user have a restrict access.

thanks a lot

Beck
