Ability to change text displayed in selection bar?

Hi, 

Is there a way to change the way text is displayed in the selection bar?  For example, the image below displays "Date.autoCalendar.Date".  Is there a way to change it to "Date" without renaming the field?

I have some fields that are calculated in the expression editor so when the user clicks on that field it displays something ugly like "if(some expression)"

Have you tried creating an master dimension from your field and naming it Date?
