Hi all,
I have a question regarding the selections tool.
I would like to better understand which fields are shown when you don't select "Show fields".
On Qlik Help it is written that app dimensions only displays master items, and that calculated dimensions are not shown in the selections tool : https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/May2024/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/Selections/use-selection-...
However I encounter cases where a dimension is besing used for a master item (without any calculation), the master item is used in a graph, and yet the dimension doesn't appear in the default app dimensions.
Is there another rule I'm missing here ?
Best regards,
Martin.
Hi @User93
When you say the fields are "embedded in master items", what do you mean?
If you right click on a field and make it a Master Dimension then it should absolutely appear in that list. If you create a master dimension from an expression, that should also be there.
Note that the scope of a master dimension is only within a single application. There is not a way for master dimensions to be shared across applications as yet.
Hope that helps,
Steve
Hi @stevedark
Thank you for your answer, I now have the solution.
If I right click on a field and make it a Master Dimension then it does appear in the App dimensions part.
However, if I go to the master items menu and create a new dimension there with one field, this field is not added to the App dimensions part (unless, of course, I select show fields), even though I get the same result regarding the master item.
This is why I don't get all the dimensions used in master items in the App dimensions part.
I don't know if this is supposed to work that way (as you say, if you create a master dimension from an expression, that should also be there), but this is what I see on my app.
Best regards,
Martin.
When there are selections in fields or dimensions, they will appear above the line in the Selections section. If they are Master Dimensions, that means that they have been promoted above the line because they contain selections and are no longer available below the line. Is that what you mean ?
Hi @Lisa_P ,
Thank you for your answer.
What I mean is that there are Qlik Sense apps where I am expecting to see dimensions in the app dimensions part of the selection tool, even if "Show fields" is not selected, because they are embedded in master items (in Qlik Help : "By default, app dimensions only displays master items."). However, these dimensions do not appear, and I am wondering why.
Best regards,
Martin.
