Make Geoanalytics Area Layer Ignore Selections

Hi, I'm creating a map in GeoAnalytics with an area layer and a point layer. The area layer separates the UK into 4 sectors relevant to our company. I want to be able to make selections in the point layer or other filters and for this to not affect the area layer whatsoever.

Currently when I make selections, areas with no values disappear. To fix this I added {1} in front of the area code in the location field so that it will ignore selections, which keeps all the areas when I click on it, but their colours all change to the null colour, rather than what any expression or dimension value I set for the colours tells them.

Using the same technique of placing {1} infront of it doesn't work either, the colours all still appear NULL() red when I make any selections that don't include them.

Here's what it looks like when I select 3 areas. Instead of this red NULL() colour, I need each area to remain the original colour.

I understand I can create these areas as an island table in my script editor so that selections arent linked to them at all, however this isn't optimal as I'd prefer the user to be able to select an area and it will show all points in that area, which wouldnt work if the area is derived from an island table.

Any suggestions on a workaround for this?

in general this type of problem is solved by set analysis as you can specify filters to ignore
