Variable Input object value persistence

Is it true that the Variable input object is only active with the value applied for the duration of the session for that user? Is there no way to use this object to set a persistent configurable value?

For instance, I wanted to use variables to adjust the segments of a gauge so that a manager could use the Variable input to set the desired value for the app, impacting all users of that app.

I can't be the only person to want to use Variable input in this manner.

It looks like i can create bookmark with the "Save variable state in bookmarks" checked... then what?

Perhaps I can make that bookmark publicly available and create a sheet action to Apply bookmark when the sheet loads.

Unfortunately when I try and publish the bookmark there is a 400 error. More work to do here.

Wouldn't it be nice to have this "Save variable state" concept in Edit variable space?
