Dropbox connector for Qlik Sense Business

Hello,

Is it me, or the Dropbox connector is missing in Qlik Sense Business?

Thanks for your support

Hi,

At the moment they are pushing frequent feature releases and fixes into the Cloud. It would appear that one of these has broken the method currently being used for the DropBox connector.

Talking to @pablolabbe last week, he suggested using the Amazon S3 connector. I tried this out on the weekend and it works well. You need an AWS account, then set up a S3 bucket, upload your files and then generate a Key and Secret to plumb into QSB (Google to find instructions for this).

Once you have the connector set up you can read and write from it as if it is a local drive in Enterprise. The only problem with it (which I assume is temporary) is that there is no file open wizard. This means for all but the simplest QVD loads you need to open the file in another place (Sense Desktop, perhaps) and then copy the code and then change the library name.

I'm guessing that the reason you want DropBox support is so that you can write the file on a local machine and have that replicate to the Cloud? If so, I would expect that there will be some kind of local folder replication for S3 (as it has an open API), but this is not something I have looked into.

Hopefully the DropBox connector will be created for QSB soon. I'm still hoping to be able to use this for a client rather than S3 (to save them setting up an AWS account and because the pricing on S3 is not clear, but it does seem very low).

Regarding contacting support, that is certainly a good idea. You can also tag people in Community and it can garner a response. @Floyd_Kelly springs to mind as the best call.

If you contact support I would point them towards this thread to give them context and a heads up.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Robert,

Thanks for that. I managed to get QVD's loaded for the purposes of the demo. I did raise the current issue as well. Basically it will become a case of 'lets see if this gets stable.

I have also logged a case with support.

Hi Steve.

Thank you for the update, as well as suggestion wrt AWS. Getting another account will be a hard sell. Because most of their 'stuff' is already on One Drive, convincing to move some data via Dropbox  was already quite difficult. To now go and say the solution, I suggested, is currently having issues, may not be the best thing.

Lets see what support has ito a solution.

Just to keep this issue 'alive'. I will update from time to time.

I logged a call with Support last week. Further information was requested and I supplied it. To date I have not heard back again.

Hello All,

Any updates? Seems that DropBox connector is not yet available.

Thanks.

Hi.

No updates yet. I send a message to the support person this morning asking for a update. I don't hold out much hope because the 'Contact Sales' link also just seems to go into a black hole.

The fact that the connector is not yet available and the Rest connector also stopped working last week makes me wonder who Qlik Sense Business is actually aimed at and if it is commercially ready.

But they're working on it I suppose? And the DropBox connector will still be available. We can't fully migrate our apps due to this.

We heavily relied on that connector because of DropBox basic edition being free. Shifting to AS3 will incur us cost.

Since REST stopped working then the workaround is not an option anymore?

Hi John,

Just wanted to say thanks for your updates which we've been following as it seems we're in the same boat. We also have clients who won't switch to a different cloud platform as we had to fight to get them onto Dropbox. Also the clients won't pay for another either.  Out efforts to get anything helpful from support weren't successful either so my personal hope is that they delay the Qlik Sense Cloud switch off until they've got all the same connectors available on Qlik Business.

Once more, thanks to everyone here for the updates. If we receive anything useful we'll post it.

Hi,

To pick up on the comment about the Web connector 'breaking', this actually sounds like a sensible security precaution, that you can't connect to one URL and then be pointed to somewhere else to get your data. It's a real shame that this security patch breaks DropBox.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have been suffering from frequent disconnects from Qlik Sense Business. These performance issues are going to be top of the Cloud teams list of things to fix at the moment. It's critical that the platform is stable before too many people start using it.

As you say, you've got to hope that they delay the switch off of QSC4B until such a time that QSB is stable and has feature parity. I wouldn't like to call whether that will happen or not thought.

Keeping watching this thread with interest...

Hi,

I agree that if it is security, it's not a bad thing. But then, don't disable the functionality without some notification. We are demoing something to a potential Client, and the next week the 'solution' no longer works. At this stage there is no way of loading data from a QVD, without attaching the QVD to the App. Doing that on a daily bases, potentially twice per day, in not a solution.

With regard to the frequent disconnects. I have a ticket with support on that. A suggestion I am trying since this morning is to not use Chrome. For the moment I have been using Edge, and I have not had a single issue.
