qlik sense desktop multiple data associations

Hi all,

I'm quite new on using Qlik.

Some could help me about data association.

The system show me three data associations but on the app they are not available. The only one available as field is the one highlighted in grey in the following screenshot, the other two are shown as single dimension.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks,

Hi Sergio

I think I understand. In my opinion, the easiest would be to build one large table with the data using the script editor and making the reports have the same layout using dummy columns. That would be the most scalable solution, but if you want to solve it quickly - here is what I would do:

1. Create a compound key to combine the month, population and type into one field for each report (compound key column and unique report columns will be used for each report (you will not add the event, population and type in this table)).

2. Create a table with all the event, population and types in your sheet and create a key column for this table as well using the event, population and type (four columns in total). Let's call this the Keys table.

3. Import the Keys table and all of the report tables. Make the association on the key column in the Keys table and all of the compound key columns. When you make the association it will look like an X with all of the tables joined to one circle in the middle.

I have tried to attach a sample Excel file with the tables and a qvf file. It seems like I cannot attach the qvf file. Send me a private message with your email address and then I will email you the qvf if you want it.

Hi Sergio

It is not making all those associations, you have to choose one. Currently the one in dark grey is selected.

 Hi Mauritz,

tks for your reply.

So Qlik doesn't permit to have more associations at the same time?

There is no way to have more then one?

Thanks,

Sergio

Hi Sergio

Why would you like to have more than two associations? It is basically joining two tables on a common field and I'm not sure why you would like more than one association (common field) between two tables. Otherwise you can always create a compound key.

Hi Mauritz,

i don't want more than two associations for a dimension, I want more dimensions that results from association of a couple of dimension.

I need to filter the overall data using the dimensions that come from the association of the dimesnsion that belongs to different files.

If the system allow me to have only one association active I cannot create the need filtering.

Thanks, for you kind support.

Sergio

Hi Sergio

Sorry, but I think you should maybe give an example of what you want to do with the different tables to make sure we're on the same page.Smiley Happy

Hi Mauritz,

yes you are right.

I'm doing some analysis on events performed by a company. We have different data report according with the audience those events are targeted.

But this reports share some common values which are:

  • event month
  • event type of population
  • type of event

What I need is the possibility to filter the overall data such us for example the event duration using this common values (see below)Capture_qlik.PNG

But I can't do this because I can select and have a valid association only for one value at time.

I hope it helps.

Thank for your support
