Migrate Server Objects from Qlik View to Qlik Sense

Hello experts,

We have a project for migrating a Qlik View enviroment to Qlik Sense.

Howerever, we are facing this situation: The user wants to include on the migration the Server Objects (.shared files).

¿What is the best way to achieve this?

You can copy and rename the existing .shared file to match the new QVW name. Then you will need to use the QMC to delete objects you don't want to retain. 

Second option is:

I don't know of any utility to selectively move objects.  You can do some bulk updating (like deleting and reassigning) of the shared file using the command line Shared File Tool - https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/May2021/Subsystems/Server/Content/QV_Server/QlikView-Server/QVS...

The migration is from Qlik View to Qlik Sense, so, your suggestion doesn't apply. (I guess)

I don't think you can do this directly.

You might be able to import the shared objects into the app proper (see: https://community.qlik.com/t5/QlikView-Administration/Converting-Server-Objects-to-Local-Objects/m-p... ) and then convert that. However, this will turn them into standard app objects rather than personal ones (but you could then place them all into a sheet, associate that sheet with the user who created them, and then unapprove/unpublish that sheet.

I'm guessing this solution would be more trouble than it's worth and you'd be better off re-creating any necessary objects in QS, but it's the only one I can think of. For what it's worth, we ended up re-creating everything in QS anyway without using the conversion tool, as the results were not satisfactory for direct conversion.

That's what I was thinking. The current deployment is for more than 2.000 users and all of them has the privilege of develop server objects, so, you may imagine that the manual process is not possible.

I hope that someone on Qlik read this thread and give us a workaround.

The scenario is from on premises to on premises enviroment (Qlik SaaS doesn't apply)

The Qlikview converter doesn't includes the server objets as I know, so, it's not a solution for our case.

Unless you are highly confident in the quality of the conversion tool for your specific use case, I would advise against trying to do this in an automated manner. It is my understanding that the conversion tool does not get the job 100% done, meaning the imported objects may well not work as expected with the adjustments you'd have to make to the app after you've converted it.

In any case, I'll let the fine folks at Qlik speak for themselves insofar as any possible solutions. Good luck!
