Can I use Talend Open Studio Data Integration "Community" edition in an Enterprise environment?

Could someone please help me to understand the following questions?

Are we allowed to use Talend Open Studio Data Integration Community Edition in an Enterprise environment? If its allowed, are there any downside of using community edition in the enterprise environment? What's cost of Talend Open Studio Data Integration Enterprise Edition? Is the licensing based on the number of environments (DEV, QA, PROD, etc.) and CPUs (where it will be installed)?

Thanks.

Hi,

You are allowed to use the Talend Open Studio Data Integration Community Edition in an Enterprise environment.  However, you should know that you will not receive support and security patches on it.  You will need to asses what your internal security compliance is and decide if that is fine or not.  The Talend Open Studio for DI for community is updated when we are doing new builds.  In between the time of the builds, it can be a few months.  If there is a security issue and it needs a patch, then you will need to wait for the next build to have a patched system since you are on the Open Source edition.

If you think about it, Equifax had a massive security breach because of delays in patching a security problem in Apache Struts.  Hence, you will need to assess whether waiting for new builds of Talend Open Studio community edition is fine for you.  It may be ok according to your security compliance need. There is nothing wrong with using the community version in production.  You just need to do your homework and know whether it fits your compliance.

Talend releases new versions of the community version on a regular cadence (a few months apart) with milestone, beta, and GA releases. Hence, security fixes are always being integrated into new versions of the community software.

For customers who have our subscription edition, we provide patches to them, and they get notified of CVEs etc. Hence, they get these fixes earlier.

The first level of subscription version is Talend Data Integration.  For pricing, I suggest you reach out to our sales team.  You can go to our website https://www.talend.com/products/data-integration/ and use the Contact Sales form to have someone reach out to you.

I'm not sure why you would want to use both the Open Source Edition and Enterprise Edition together if I'm honest. However you can import and export between them for a lot of the content. What is your requirement here? You can certainly start your project with the Open Source Edition and import it into the Enterprise Edition in the future if you wish.

For pricing you need to speak to Talend. You generally pay for users, Talend components (DI, ESB, Big Data, MDM, etc) and things like runtime environments. You will need to give them your requirements and they will tell you what you need to pay for.
