Changing a property of a dimension set in the property panel based on an expression

Hello,

I'm working on extension where I need to change a Qlik predefined property of dimensions defined in the property panel.
The property I try to change is qOtherTotalSpec.qTotalMode to calculate totals for a dimension.

When I directly assign TOTAL_OFF or TOTAL_EXPR to the property qOtherTotalSpec.qTotalMode value it works. But I want to make it dynamic based on an expression, that doesn't work.

What I make of it is that the expression is not evaluated when I assign it to qOtherTotalSpec.qTotalMode.
Anybody any ideas how to make this work?

An idea: can I evaluate an expression before the hypercube is build and assign the result to qOtherTotalSpec.qTotalMode and then build the hypercube?
