Narrative science is not working

Hi,

We were using narrative science extension. It is stopped working and showing visualization not found on the server.

Anyone facing the same issue?

Regards,

Prabhu Appu

Hi Prabhu, if the Extension is working on your desktop but not the server it might suggest that you haven't installed the extension onto the server.

Depending on how it is set up, there is usually a subdirectory \QlikViewServer\Extensions\objects folder that you will need to copy the extension files into.

Does this work?

Hi Prabhu,

Narrative science extension needs a one time connection to it's home site. Check if your server has the access to it.

It might be blocked in recent time.

BTW is it working in your desktop ?

Karthik

Hi Prabhu-

I'm a technical product manager at Narrative Science. If you submit a support request at Narratives For Qlik, we'd be able to help you directly. The above suggestion would be my initial inclination as well. Many times, ad blockers and other network restrictions will prevent the extension from pulling down the necessary code from our servers. When that "one time connection to its home site" as Karthik described can't happen, you will see that error.

Hi Dan,

Sounds interesting. Does narrative science extension need continuous connection to your site ?.

What kind of information being passed to your site from the extension?

Karthik

Hi Karthik-

The free version of the extension operates as a web service. Any time you will want to bring the extension into a worksheet you will require connection because you will need to pull down code from our servers. Then, any time you actually want to generate a narrative using the extension, you will need a connection because you are sending a transformed version of the Qlik hypercube for the chart you are writing about to our servers to generate a narrative.

The data being sent to our site is just the data needed to write a story about a particular chart (names of measures/dimensions, the raw data values). That is it.

If you are interested in an 'on premise' version of the extension where all of the data stays within your network, send an email to narratives4qlik@narrativescience.com

Thanks!
