Qlik Cli List of generic object json paths parameter

How do i use Qlik Cli to pass a list of generic object json paths. This is seen in the documentation for mutliple commands, notably 
https://qlik.dev/toolkits/qlik-cli/app/app-build/

and

https://qlik.dev/toolkits/qlik-cli/app/app-variable-rm/

For app-variable, the command requires a space separated list of variable NAMES, not Ids. 
for example qlik app variable rm variable1 variable2 -a appid
