Qlik Sense and QlikView can only be licensed without an active internet connection if it is licensed using a serial key, control number, and LEF. Signed License keys require internet connectivity. See Using a Qlik signed license in an offline environment and How to activate Qlik Sense, QlikView, and Qlik NPrinting without Internet Access.

For general information about signed license keys and LEF-enabled keys, see The Signed License Key (SLK) and the License Enabler File (LEF).

QlikView

Without internet connectivity, licensing the QlikView Server results in:

Server failed to set license: QVS@machine: Unable to contact the QlikView License Enabling Server. Please verify that you are connected to the Internet and try again or contact QlikView support for assistance.

Qlik Sense

Without internet access, licensing the Qlik Sense server results in:

Failed to contact the license server.

License offline using the LEF

This is only possible with a license enabled to be used with the LEF / Serial Number / Control Number combination. You cannot use a Signed License key offline.

If the QlikView or Qlik Sense server must remain isolated from the internet, the following need to be obtained:

  • The 16 digit license or serial number.
  • The 5 digit control number.
  • The contents of the LEF-file (License Enabler File).

See How to request a control number and LEF for details.

QlikView

  1. Open the QlikView Management Console
  2. Navigate to System > Licenses > QlikView Server
  3. Switch to the QlikView Server License tab.
    • If replacing a license, press the clear license information button at the bottom, then proceed to step 4.  NOTE: This will require a restart of the QlikView Server.
    • If licensing a new server, proceed to step 4.
  4. Populate the Serial number field with the 16-digit license/serial number. Verify that no spaces have been inserted before, between, or after the numbers.
  5. Populate the Control field with the 5-digit control number. Verify that no spaces have been inserted before, between, or after the numbers.
  6. Copy and paste the LEF-file information in the text box labelled with "Paste the contents of the LEF file here (optional)". Verify that no carriage returns/blank lines have been inserted below the LEF information and that no spaces have been inserted before, between, or after the content.
  7. Fill out the Name and Organization fields.
  8. Press the Apply License button in the bottom of the page.  NOTE: this will require a restart of the QlikView Server.

Qlik Sense

  1. When Qlik Sense is first installed, the Qlik Management Console will only go to the Site license properties (the URL will look similar to //qlikserver1.domain.local/qmc/sitelicense )
  2. Fill in the fields for Owner name and Owner organization.
  3. Populate the Serial number field with the 16-digit license/serial number. Verify that no spaces have been inserted before, between, or after the numbers.
  4. Populate the Control field with the 5-digit control number. Verify that no spaces have been inserted before, between, or after the numbers.
  5. Click the arrow (triangle) next to "LEF access" to open that field.
  6. Copy and paste the LEF-file information in the text box labelled with "Paste the contents of the LEF file here (optional)". Verify that no carriage returns/blank lines have been inserted below the LEF information and that no spaces have been inserted before, between, or after the content.
  7. Press the "Apply" button in the bottom of the page.

NOTE:
Some email systems will introduce extra characters or lines because of formatting.  Be aware of this when copying and pasting the contents of the LEF file.
