what is the difference between exporting certificates from QMC vs From MMC on local machine?

I am trying to backup and restore a central node on a new server node. My question is what is the difference between exporting certificates from QMC(that is, Start->Configure System->Certificates) vs remote logging into the central node machine and Exporting the certificates using MMC?  Can i just export them from QMC and use the same to restore a central node on a new server? Any help is much appreciated.
