How to estimate "Data for Analysis" when migrating to Qlik Cloud (or moving towards a Capacity subscription)
Hi All,
I'm looking for a way to estimate the "data for analysis" when you want to sell/propose a capacity subscription towards an already existing Qlik customer and more specifically, for an already existing SaaS (user-based) customer.
This is what help.Qlik.com indicates:
-
The following data is included in the metric:
-
Data loaded into Qlik Cloud from external sources. For reloads, new incremental data increases the data count. If the reload has less data, the data count decreases.
-
Data files uploaded to or created in Qlik Cloud. The file size is counted. If you copy data files within Qlik Cloud, the new data files are included in the count.
The data analyzed metric is calculated as:
-
The volume of external data ingested into Qlik Cloud via a Qlik Sense app.
-
The resulting QVD file size from external data being loaded into Qlik Cloud via Qlik Data Gateway - Data Movement.
-
The file size of data files uploaded to Qlik Cloud.
-
Static byte size of the app.
-
This is very clear but what I'm looking for is how you can calculate on an existing SaaS (user-based) environment, the following:
- The file size of data files uploaded to Qlik Cloud.
- Static byte size of the app.
Kr,
Timmy

Great questions @Timmy_Diricx and there will be many more about this topic for sure!
So, regarding your questions:
The file size of data files uploaded to Qlik Cloud.
This is simple the size of the files that you upload to Qlik Cloud - like CSVs, Excel, QVDs, Parquet, etc.
Static byte size of the app.
When you import a QVF file, the size of the QVF counts - similar to the previous topic. Only when you import the QVF.
If you are moving the QVF from one tenant to another, you can check the QVF size on the App Details:

In the Cloud Administration > Content view, you can get sizes for both Apps and Data Files:

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your feedback.
I'm really looking for a monitoring kind of tools that can give me an estimate on how many data packs a customer would need if he would choose for a Qlik Cloud Capacity based subscription.
Let's say that the customer already has a SaaS environment (user based) and he now want to have an estimate on what he would need to go for if he wants to renew with a Capacity based subscription.
I currently can't find tooling that give me that indication. The App analyzer only has app's 'in memory' overview en not app's file size overview.
Correct me if I'm wrong with any of the above statements.

Timmy

Hi Rob,
Thanks for your feedback!
Correct me if I'm wrong but the sizes for the apps, aren't they the "in memory base footprint" sizes?
For the "Data for Analysis" and more specific for how many data-packs a customer needs, I need the file size of the app's which I can't find anywhere.
I also tried via the rest API to check if the info was available via that way but for now, no success.
For all clarity, the datafiles do have the disk/files size information.
Kr,
Timmy

I know there is some confusion around this subject and I'm no expert on the topic. But I believe the in-memory footprint is the size used for App capacity metrics. There is no such thing as a "disk file size" for Cloud Apps.

Yes. You are absolutely correct. For capacity base license in Qlik Cloud, this 2 things are very important
1: data size which we import in qlik cloud
2: data we stored in qlik cloud (qvd, csv, excel etc.)
If you want to track this then use detail consumption report
This report is only available to those tenant who have capacity based license.
