QlikSense Desktop Installation stuck at "Staging"

Hi all,

I am trying to install QlikSense Desktop 1.1.0, but I cannot get anywhere because I am stuck on this screen:

Prior to this, I just chose all the default options except desktop shortcuts.

Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 8.1 Enterprise

System Type: 64-bit

Processor: Intel i7 2.70 GHz

RAM: 16 GB

Available HD space: 136 GB

Laptop Model: HP Zbook 14

Not sure what to do because I'm not getting any error logs. If I go to the list of programs to uninstall, QlikSense is already there, but there is no Start Menu item or folder under Program Files, so I can't use the software either. Uninstalling brings me back to the same screen -- it is stuck at "Staging."

Any help is appreciated.

maybe the problem is that the current version is 1.1.0

Hi Andrew,

Not sure if you're trying to install 1.0 or 1.1?

For 1.1 system requirements has changed slightly and now requires .NET 4.5.1. I've seen .NET causing issues if the filename has been changed of the installation package. Can you confirm the installation package is named "Qlik_Sense_Desktop_setup.exe" and hasn't been renamed?

Also, you can create an installation log by running the installation package with the -l switch, like:

Qlik_Sense_Desktop_setup.exe -l "c:\tmp\install.log"

The log can give hints about what's causing the installation to fail / get stuck.

1) I'm trying to install 1.1.0.

2) My laptop also has .NET 4.5.1 and the filename has not been renamed.

Have you encountered this before? Google searches return that it is an "Access Denied" error, but I am using an admin account for this. Explicitly running the program as administrator also does not change anything.

Hi Andrew - just a thought, is there any security software running. Virus? Malware agents? Microsoft security Essentials?. etc. that would prevent installation or updates to the registry? I have seen a similar situation where some Malware software such as Malwarebytes prevented a software installation from writing to the registry.

Another option might be to try the installation in Safe Mode - to see if any other 3rd party factors are the issue. I am not sure if you can install in safe mode, but it is worth a try: How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 or 8.1 (The Easy Way)

Hi Bryan - this issue seems to be environmental - can you attach the install log:

Use: Qlik_Sense_Desktop_setup.exe -l "c:\tmp\install.log"

Here are some other things to verify / try:

Modify path in registry - we have seen this with shared and roaming profiles, or document drives that are not local to the machine.

1. Open regedit

2. Seach for HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

3. Change the path in "Personal" entry to a local path, but remember the old path!

4. This may now allow you to install Qlik Sense without an error.

5. Change the path in "Personal" to your old.

• Disable UAC

• Run install program as Administrator:

Hi Bryan - let me see if I can get Qlik Support to look at this. It is failing right around here:

Can you go to our site and see if you can download a new setup file. just to make sure this one is not corrupted? I will check with support to see if they have seen this before.
