When exporting data from a Qlik Sense App, the Printing Service creates a temporary file, which is stored in a temporary folder. Both folder and file are deleted after a set time period.

Exported XLSX files are stored in: C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\TempContent.
The folder is in the node where the repository is installed.

The data is automatically deleted after 30 minutes by the Engine.

The expiration time is configurable as of the May 2023 patch 2 release by modifying the ExportDataTempContentExpireSeconds value in the Qlik Sense Server's settings.ini.

To configure the expiration time:

  1. Stop the Qlik Sense Engine and Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher services on all nodes with engines.
  2. For each of the nodes: open Notepad as Administrator
  3. Open the Settings.ini file. Default location: C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Engine\Settings.ini
  4. Modify the file to fit this schema:
    [Settings 7]
    ExportDataTempContentExpireSeconds=Value

    Where Value is time in seconds.

    Retain the blank line at the end of the file.

  5. Save the file
  6. After these changes have been made on all nodes, start the Qlik Sense Engine and Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher services on each node.

Can you please confirm if there are configuration options available to adjust this 10 min time limit in the later releases.

We are running Qlik Sense Feb 2022. I see the below two items in the Repository.exe.config file. Could you please confirm if this can be adjust by modifying the time specified here.

<add key="TempContentMaintenance.Enabled" value="true" />
<add key="TempContentMaintenance.Interval" value="12:00:00" />

Hello @Kalkumar

Assuming you are looking for the temp files created during excel export: They are, by default, stored in the C:\ProgramData\QlikView\QlikViewServer\Temp Folder, though the folder can be changed in the management console. See How to change how long temporary excel files are stored by the QlikView server for details.

All the best,
Sonja

@Sonja_Bauernfeind the reference article states in Qlik View how long the files are stored can be extended, but this article states in Qlik Sense that it is not configurable.

Am I correct in assuming the configuration was removed for Qlik Sense and now it is only 10 minutes at maximum and not configurable?

The data is automatically deleted after 10 minutes by the Engine. This is not currently a configurable property

Hello @MConlon

That is correct.

I reviewed if we have an active idea for this, and it does not look like it. I recommend logging one and giving our product team a detailed description of why the feature would be great to have. You can do so in our Ideation section.

Edit:

The expiration time is configurable as of the May 2023 patch 2 release by modifying the ExportDataTempContentExpireSeconds value in the Qlik Sense Server's settings.ini.

All the best,
Sonja

Hi @Sonja_Bauernfeind

So just to confirm, there's no way to increase that 10 minute automatic delete time in any version prior to May 2023 patch 2? Someone above mentioned something in the Repository.exe.config?

We are running into issues where we cannot even download the exported xlsx (resource cannot be found error) because it takes longer than 10 minutes to load so the file has already been purged from the temp folder.

Thanks,
Garrett

Hello @garadams1

Correct. The feature was introduced in the May 2023 Patch 3 release and any major version afterwards. No other method is supported by Qlik - I highly recommend upgrading to a version which includes this feature.

All the best,
Sonja

Hello, and thank you for all this information !

Unfortunately I'm facing two problems:
- When exporting, if I check "Table formatting" box: no file is temporarily saved. If I don't ckeck the box, a file is created.
- When adding this parameter to the configuration file, I get an error message when exporting data (only for without formatting): "Invalid Request".

Do you have any clues as to how to solve these problems? Thanks for your help!
