How to scramble data in QlikView application (QVW) files

QlikView application (QVW) files may contain sensitive data. As such, even though Qlik Technical Support has a very strict Non-Disclosure Agreement, it may be desired  to  scrambled specific data before submitting apps QlikView support for investigation.

Environment:

• QlikView, all versions

Data in QlikView application (.QVW) file can be scrambled by using the built-in scrambling feature. Once scrambled it is NOT reversible, so please ensure this is not performed on production apps and that a backup of the app exists.

1. Duplicate the production app.
2. Open the .qvw file QlikView desktop client
3. Go to Settings > Document Properties > Scrambling
4. Highlight the field that should be scramble. Press Ctrl to enable highlighting several fields at once if required.
5. Click Scramble to scramble the content of the highlighted fields

NOTE: Remember to update the support case with reproduction details that match the scrambled file.
