If only using Gold Client's Data Echo, must we start with an empty target client and the SAP_UCSV profile?

Qlik's best practices recommend using only the two scenarios below with respect to the target client.

  1. Starting with an empty client; copy the SAP customizing via client copy profile SAP_UCSV, followed by a copy of all master data. This creates the ideal baseline for a client which can then be populated with whatever amount of transactional data is suitable for the team's use case.
  2. Alternately, a target client can be a very recent copy of Prod; however, in this instance the team should be sure to execute the Gold Client Number Ranges utility immediately following the system/database copy so as to segregate data that will subsequently be copied to the target via Gold Client apart from data that will be natively generated within this same client.

Only the two situations above are likely to create a target client with a high degree of data integrity. Any other situation could lead to questionable integrity. For more information, consider referencing the following documents: Gold Client Best Practices, and How to Build a Target Client Using a Repeatable Process.  Both are found under Support - Downloads for product Qlik Gold Client.

If it is not possible for the team to use one of the two best practices noted above, it is advised that you contact the Qlik Gold Client team for support and subsequent dialogue around your specific use case.
