May 2022 upgrade guide

Upgrading from Qlik Compose May 2021 or Aug 2021 to May 2022

This will be an in-place upgrade, but we still recommend you back up the installation, projects, and data warehouse before upgrading.

  1. Suspend all scheduled jobs, and stop all the tasks and services.
  2. After the Qlik Compose service has been stopped by the Installer, make sure that all child processes are also stopped.

Note: Qlik Compose runs a check to verify the termination of tasks and processes before running an upgrade. If any processes are found to be still running, the installation will be aborted.

  3. Run the Qlik Compose setup wizard for May 2022 as administrator.
  4. Open the command prompt as administrator and navigate to the  Qlik Compose installation bin folder.

    Default location: C:\Program Files\Qlik\Compose

  5. Upgrade  project repositories by running one of the following commands, according to whether you changed the default location of the Compose for Data Warehouses "data" folder:

If you did not change the default location of the "data" folder, run the following:

    composecli.exe upgrade

The command should complete with the following message:
    Compose Control Program completed successfully.

If you changed the default location of the "data" folder, run the following:

    ComposeCtl -d new_dir compose upgrade
Where new_dir is the location of the Compose "data" folder.

The command should complete with the following message:
    Compose Control Program completed successfully.

  6. Run the below post-upgrade scripts:

    ComposeCli.exe generate_upgrade_scripts

For each of your projects, the CLI output will tell you the name of the script and its location. Each script has a different name, consisting of the script identifier (the bold part), the project name, and a timestamp.

    Example of Upgrade script 1:

    C:\Program Files\Qlik\Compose\data\projects\Project_1\ddl-scripts             \ComposeUpgradeFrom2021_5To2021_8Project_1__210714142110.sql

    Example of Upgrade script 2:

    C:\Program Files\Qlik\Compose\data\projects\Project_2\ddl-scripts\ComposeUpgradeFrom2021_8SP4To2021_8SP10Project_2__220114142110.sql

    Example of Upgrade script 3:

    C:\Program Files\Qlik\Compose\data\projects\Project_3\ddl-scripts\ComposeUpgradeFrom2021_8SP10To2021_8SP12Project_3__220518142110.sql

If you are unsure of which script to run, please run all three scripts. If the object already exists, the scripts will exit with the message objects already exists. The message can be ignored.

  7. Access each of your databases using SQL Workbench or a similar tool and run the script(s) that were created in Step#6.
  8. When the script(s) completes successfully, generate and run your tasks in Qlik Compose.
  9. Resume all suspended scheduled jobs and tasks.
If you are running any version earlier than Attunity Compose for Data Warehouses version 6.6.1, you must first upgrade to the 7.0  version before moving on to any of the later versions of Qlik Compose.
