Error in installation: Service 'Qlik NPrinting Web Engine' (QlikNPrintingWebEngine) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to..."

Hello all,

We are performing a new installation of NPrinting in a single node server.

It is a Windows 2016 server.

We ensured the server has:

  • Sufficient space for NPrinting to install
  • The service account is an administrator
  • The service account has "Log on as a server" membership

However the problem is when we perform the installation, after the point of supplying the service account and when the software is trying to start the services it produces a "Service 'Qlik NPrinting Web Engine' (QlikNPrintingWebEngine) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the services."

This happens for all the other NPrinting services.

To try and solve the issue we tried installing again after checking the service accounts, all were fine.

In the installation wizard NPrinting gives you a "Ignore" button for the above message so we also did that and after the installation wizard is completed, when we tried to manually run the services it comes up with "Windows could not start the Qlik NPrinting Scheduler (or even Web Engine) service on local computer.

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."

Given the service account passed all the bullet points above anyone know what the issue may be?

Hi @worldwidepants

Thank you for the clear description.

Check this article and point below as well as figure 1.3 in the article.

NOTE: The NP service account, built in Windows 'Network Service' and 'local' accounts should not have any default user rights assignments removed from it via Active Directory Group Policy. In some large network enterprises, user rights assignments are removed or changed for service account. User rights assignments must remain in their default state to ensure that Qlik NPrinting can be installed correctly and work as designed. Changing/removing any default user assignments via local group policy editor or through global network group policy management will adversely impact the installation and running of the NPrinting server environment. If policy is changed, the following similar to the one below may occur during setup and installation.

During the installation, it is possible that the service account used as the NPrinting service account may have previously been modified by active directory group policy (disabling the ability for the NP service account to log in interactively for example...or some other restrictive policy). This is the most common reason for this installation behavior.

If this is the case with your organization, it is recommended to request an 'exceptions' from your Network Admin for any account used for NPrinting server services 'not' to be subject to AD group policy that affects default user rights assignments.

Separately, April 2019 is just reaching unsupported status.  We suggest upgrading to the latest version of NPrinting within your organization to leverage the many defect repairs, logging improvements and performance enhancements (and a few new features) at your earliest convenience.

Kind regards...
