Local-Used causes problem opening MS-Office-Products (Excel, Powerpoint - xlsx / ppt)

The local installation works only till the PC will be rebootet.

After reboot, opening Reports-Templates (Excel, PPT make problems, html works) we have allways the message, that there is a problem from NPrintingDesigner.exe not registered in class OODE9844.

Workaround is than, to remove the NPrintingDesigner-Installation, reboot, new-installation.
This works than till the pc will be rebootet or till another user use that client.

I think the problem could be, that our security does not allowe a lot of things and that NPrintingDesigner uses
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\.. and copy the exe and document-links to this folder.
The user cannot access to them with the rebooted pc.

as we couldn't install successfully the Designer in our "managed clients infrastructure", our QualityManagementDept. decided to stop this project. we have spent many hours to solve this, but not successfully.

HI @Marco_Medde_at_KSSG_IT ,

Are you installing Designer running installer as Administrator?

yes, I have. In our company only Admins can install - normal Users have no rights.

Unfortunately, we can't change the Office-Products-Layouts.
Restarting the PC the Standards will be loaded again, so no chance.

is there a new NPrinting-Designer-Version in development, that do not use the %appdata%\local\temp\-Folder and do not longer need a 100%-scale and DPI-correction??

If not, we can't work with the NPrinting-Designer in our company.

You must know, that we have 6000 pc and all managed by our client-engineers. Normal users must work with the standard-installation.

The most workstations are VDI's - virtual desktops.

The designer-users have a FAT-Client (Notebooks). But also with standard-office-installations - no changes at design and options allowed. No use of exe-Files - not installed by the admin - are allowed.
NPrinting-Designer make Exe-copies to the the %appdata%\local\temp\-Folder and want to use this … Our security-options will never allowe this.

I hope, that a new Designer-Version is in develop, that is easier to install in big and secure companies.

Hi @Marco_Medde_at_KSSG_IT,

I would say that there is 0.01% of the chance that your wish would happen.

I am working usually on Macbook so obviously we had discussions about new Designer option for NPrinting. There was also an idea created which was suggesting need for new changed designer. It was declined and will not be delivered and given that NPrinting is now in support (not development) state I dont think Qlik would spend time changing concept of how designer works. Sorry.

I suggest you open support ticket with Qlik and ask Qlik for guidance on the subject. Official documentation does not state anything about folder restrictions so maybe there is something else what you guys need to do.

Hi @Marco_Medde_at_KSSG_IT - It is a shame,

my understanding is that you have contacted your Qlik account manager directly and asked for help given the magnitude of the issue (go/no go for project) and Qlik was unable to provide you with support engineer who would guide you through the project

or

did you try to do all by yourself and this community post?

Answering above question may give many others insights on how to act during such scenario situation. NPrinting is very complex tool (despite the very wrong perception that it isn't) so it MUST be consulted with very experienced NPrinting developer/consultant in situations like yours to avoid disappointment.

anyway - It is a shame that your project got stopped.

cheers
